A good fit is when the skin barrier opening is snug around the stoma where the skin and stoma meet, and you have filled in any gaps, creases, or folds. Measure your stoma size with these guides before every barrier application during the first 6-8 weeks after ostomy surgery to be sure of your stoma size as swelling reduces. After that, measure periodically to ensure the stoma size has not changed due to other factors like weight gain or loss.
